If we want postinsts to run at build time then we need a working user-mode qemu-ppc64. qemu-native doesn't build this, and there are reports that if you enable it then it crashes with Illegal Instruction.
Mark, is there anyone at Wind River who cares about ppc64? I guess the steps are 1) add qemuppc64 machine, 2) enable ppc64 in qemu 3) test.
Also CCing Armin who wrote a machine for qemuppc64. Getting this into oe-core itself would be a good step forwards.
There are NXP (formerly FSL) ppc64 machines that would still be useful to have an emulated PPC64 target for. In addition we've got associated tooling like prelink and just general testing that would be a good idea. However, since our focus as been on the NXP parts, we've not had any work performed to implemented qemuppc64. I would still like to see this from a community perspective, but I don't have the time to contribute at this point.
sorry missed meeting ( jet lagged). Ported forward changes. Compile tested core-image-minimal fine.
looks like I might need an additional native package qemu-slof. Had to install that to get the host qemuppc64 to work on my Ubuntu host.
have it booting a 4.4 kernel. console not responding to input.. configuration most likey

The machine builds, but usermode qemu is still non-existant: > Executing update_pixbuf_cache intercept ... /data/poky-master/tmp-glibc/sysroots/qemuppc64/usr/bin/crossscripts/qemuwrapper: 2: /data/poky-master/tmp-glibc/sysroots/qemuppc64/usr/bin/crossscripts/qemuwrapper: qemu-ppc64: not found
I am seeing an error similar to this when running testimage. https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2016-04/msg00262.html
might be fixed via: Patch has been accepted upstream: http://git.qemu.org/?p=SLOF.git;a=commitdiff;h=e56149ca790859e0

Armin, Care to do a v3? I'd test and review. It would be nice to add qemuppc64 since that would help find bugs and surprisingly, ppc64 hardware development continues. We've found some pp64 specific package defects when testing 2.4 at WR. Is there still a problem with qemu user-mode?
Any progress? The link https://patchwork.openembedded.org/patch/126029/ does not seem to work for me, I *** think *** this one is equivalent: https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/log/?h=akuster/qemuppc64v2

This time I did get the usermode qemu-ppc64 working correctly, (but not the system-qemu-ppc64).
I am going to spend time on this again.
this looks to be in master. http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=97b5b17cb1e589c592c505651608094ec33767cf
