Kishore, have you had a chance to look at this report? Can you please mark as ACCEPT and try and help jsshetler out with this? jsshetler, can you attach a failed /var/log/Xorg.0.log please? That will typically explain why X *failed* to start. If it never attempted to start, that will be a different issue, but I think that is less likely. Another worthwhile step would be to compare the /etc/X11/xorg.conf from the two images and see how they differ. It might be something as simple as which output ports are specified.
Hi Jsshetler, Could you try the release binaries we have posted at http://downloads.yoctoproject.org/releases/yocto/yocto-1.3/machines/cedartrail/meta-cedartrail-danny-8.0.0.tar.bz2 and see if X comes up on your board? We had seen X not coming up for some of the Cedartrail Boards. Hi Rahul, Do you know which SKUs has the X problem? Can you take a look at this? Thanks Kishore.
We tested the BSP with all the processor SKUs on Cedar Rock CRBs. We can check again on a N2600 board specificaly but the issue is probably not processor SKU related it may be something specific to the Jetway board (which we dont have) or its BIOS. Jsshetler, can you post the contents of Xorg0.0.log file ?

Attached a few files from the runs in December on the Jetway board. The Danny BSP sato version also does not work on a Cedartrail CRB in our lab with a different monitor.
After downloading the danny files at the url provided (see below), twe noticed that these seem to be the same identical files that we tested for this bug report. http://downloads.yoctoproject.org/releases/yocto/yocto-1.3/machines/cedartrail/meta-cedartrail-danny-8.0.0.tar.bz2 This bug report is for the released Danny BSP binary files (please see the title for this bug report). Has there been any updates to these files since November 9, 2012?
I see the following two lines in Xorg.0.log, but these may or may not be a symptom of the problem. [3154569.037] (II) pvr(0): Output VGA1 connected [3154569.037] (II) pvr(0): Output LVDS1 connected What display type are you using ? Assuming you are using a VGA display add the following to the kernel boot command line and try booting again: video=LVDS-1:d video=VGA-1:e In your boot USB, you will find the the Kernel boot command line in syslinux.cfg file. After editing it should look something like: APPEND initrd=/initrd LABEL=boot root=/dev/ram0 console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 video=LVDS-1:d video=VGA-1:e
Looks like we might have a solution!!! Here's what was tried: We found issue from your log that: [3154569.037] (II) pvr(0): Output VGA1 connected [3154569.037] (II) pvr(0): Output LVDS1 connected Assuming you are using a VGA display add the following to the kernel boot command line and try booting again: video=LVDS-1:d video=VGA-1:e In your boot USB, you will find the the Kernel boot command line in syslinux.cfg file. After editing it should look something like: APPEND initrd=/initrd LABEL=boot root=/dev/ram0 console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 video=LVDS-1:d video=VGA-1:e Please give it a try to see whether it works. We are testing with other Danny BSP files and builds to double-check that this works.
One of our Danny sato based builds w/ patch also worked, a build that we created using the Danny database, on the Jetway board. [Please see bug 3778 for issues remaining with CRB board. We would like some more information on what the patch actually changes. I should have some more detailed questions soon. ]
Great ! If I understand you right, the following addition to the kernel command line that I suggested fixed the issue: "video=LVDS-1:d video=VGA-1:e" Apparently the driver has a issue (bug ?) that it assumes both LVDS and VGA are active and ends up driving one of these ports (LVDS) while you have the monitor connected to VGA. We had flagged this issue to the driver team on a earlier version of the driver and looks like they either never fixed it or it resurfaced in a later version of the driver. Anyhow, the "d" in the command line means disable and "e" means enable. Hence we are explicitly diabling the LVDS output and enabling the VGA output to get round the issue. If you do test with a LVDS display then you will need to reverse the parameters. Pl confirm is this issue can be considered "fixed" now..
When I say "driver" above, I am referring to the pvr driver.
Regardless of if this is the final solution, before closing this bug we should ensure these kernel parameters are documented in the README for the BSP so that future users of the BSP can arrive at this solution without needing additional support.
Agree. Will first do some testing myself with this fix to reconfirm it does no harm on the CRBs I have and then will update README.
Bug fixed for Cedarview B2 - N2600 based Jetway board. Patch works for the VGA connection. The LVDS connection requires a slightly different patch as explained in the previous comments.
