Description Jsshetler 2013-01-23 01:06:47 UTC
Hi,

After the system boots, there is NO PROMPT on the monitor, but the serial port does show a prompt. A Denzil sato BSP does boot properly and the monitor works ok for that version. A Denzil based sato "no pvr" build is also working with the board and monitor.

note: The Sato image does not launch X-windows and details are shown on bug report 3607.

From 3607 we understand that the Sato image does not start X. In this report you are saying that... you don't get anything on the monitor? Or you get kernel/boot messages but no login prompt?

Kishore, can you please ACCEPT and help jsshetler out?
Comment 2 kishore 2013-01-23 02:24:35 UTC
Hi Rahul,

Can you take a look at this?
From Bug 3607, I had pointed Joy Shetler to first try out the binaries we have posted on Yocto project website.

As you might be knowing there are some Cedartrail SKUs on which X does not come up.

Thanks
Kishore.

jsshetler, which board are you using ? Also how is this bug different from #3607 ? Can you also pl post the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Comment 4 Jsshetler 2013-01-24 21:56:45 UTC
Sorry, I had one piece of info wrong on the description. This system did not work with ANY of the sato versions - Denzil or Danny. It does work with some of the minimal versions.

Some of the boot operations are recorded on the monitor, then the monitor goes blank for the sato versions. We are able to retrieve some information by using the serial port.

It looks like there might be a patch working for the other system. If this is SKU related, we will be using a B3 stepping instead of a B2 stepping for future systems, due out in a couple of weeks.
Comment 5 Jsshetler 2013-01-25 19:12:10 UTC
The updated Danny BSP binary w/ patch for bug 3607 DID NOT launch X-windows on the CDT CRB (We have not tried other Danny sato based builds w/ patch on the CRB yet). There is a log-in prompt on the screen, but X-windows did NOT launch.

BTW, the sato based Denzil “no pvr” build did launch X-windows properly on the CDT CRB, but none of the prior BSP sato distributions launch X-windows on that platform. So far, this is the ONLY sato based build or BSP binary that launchs X-windows on this particular platform.

So, we would like some more information on what the 3607 patch actually changes. I should have some more detailed questions soon.

We will also be collecting more info and files from the CRB next week.

I have updated #3607 with the explaination for the kernel command line fix.
Comment 7 Jsshetler 2013-02-06 21:40:17 UTC
We are now using the new DE2i-150 board and have a Danny sato Yocto version booting on all these boards.

Assume that errors on this board were sku related.

Thanks everyone!
