We are manually staging releases, which is a time consuming and error-prone approach. Release scripts will improve consistency and ease of publishing releases, as well as provide a basis for further automation.

This is intended to be sort of a master bug for the release scripting, automation work.

This has long since been done. Release tools are living and evolving in http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/release-tools/
